So I'm lazy and tired so instead of posting pics I'm going to finish the list. You know, the list of things I'd like to do. Or get done. Whatever.

  1. Go back to school. Again.

  2. Take better photographs.

  3. Play better guitar.

  4. Build a portable speaker system with iPod dock out of Coroplast. (Don't ask, you'll see it when it's done)
  5. Build something beautiful.

  6. Grow my own food. (Currently in progress)

  7. Waste less. Really. That means waste less or use less of everything.

  8. Finish the damned house so I can move.

  9. Drink less coffee.

  10. Quit smoking.

Not a comprehensive list but it's a good start.

Today's plan:

  • Rehang my front door
  • Install new light by front door
  • Post some progress updates
  • Make another list of things I'd like to do

So the painting company is coming to wash the exterior on Monday so they can paint from Wednesday to Friday. The following week we should see rain gutters go up. Amazing what one HOA board can do once the president is gone. Or maybe it's me. I resigned from the board in November of '07. Since then, they've approved painting, gutters, a survey on the windows and fencing, etc. I think it's the outgoing president and not me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Anyway, the door and the light.

Long story short, it's a new door installed recently and improperly (can't get the drywall in much less the trim after that) without redoing the whole shebang. The light is a new fixture and I'm trying to get it in before the painters come because dealing with fresh paint in addition to old caulking is just not going to work.

The picture above is the finished rehang, not much to see but this gallery takes you through it once you get past the plumbing pics.

UPDATES!

Garden Update

All planters are filled, two topped off and planted with one being a mesclun lettuce mix and the other baby bok choy and one bean plant. Haven't decided what goes in the other ones and whether I should build more or not. I have tons of seeds germinated (that pic does not include the beans soaking and the three baggies full of sprouting goodness)and I need to figure out real quick where they're gonna go! Yah!

Beans and corn growing just fine on the "Pile-O-Dirt™" In fact, if you have time, check out the latest gallery.

Today's Friday's plan:

  • Run errands with brother James
  • Pick up Perlite for garden beds from Exacta Sales
  • To Appliance Parts in Kalihi for evap bags for James's job
  • Home Depot to return cement board tape and pick up a dryer vent
  • Drop off a card on the way home
  • Kinko's to FedEx a lens back to Olympus

Can you stand the excitement?

In other news...

This Mess:

Has been turned into this mess:

Not the most beautiful, but functional and pressure tested. Tomorrow the lines get secured and insulated (mostly to protect the lines although the insulation will help for heat retention in hot water lines), the electrical boxes get installed for the fridge and washer/dryer, the dryer vent hose gets hooked up, cavity is filled with insulation, and then the whole shebang gets drywalled or sheetrocked, whatever.

I'm thinking of adding an access panel for the dryer vents and for the tub drain which sits directly above this washer/dryer-fridge alcove. Paranoia I know, but still...

Tomorrow will bring a laundry list of things to do and a home repair/renovation roundup for anyone who cares.

My neighbor Greg brought over a freshly caught Mahi as I was about to go home on Wednesday. It was cleaned (poorly) and my mom cooked it tonight, light egg batter, dredged in flour and pan fried with a mayo based tartar sauce with sriracha in it. The leftover egg and flour was used on some zucchini (not from the garden yet!) and then the leftover egg was fried. My dad beat like 6 eggs at my insistence which as it turns out was way too much. James had some friends over to eat though so nothing went to waste!
